Biggest Announcement: Full-Stack Dart Becomes Reality

Google Cloud Next 2026 in Las Vegas drew over 30,000 developers, and the Flutter and Dart team delivered a game-changing preview: Dart support for Firebase Functions is now available. This means developers can use Dart for both frontend and backend, slashing context switching.

"This is what the community has been asking for—true full-stack Dart," said Rody Davis, product manager. The team also revealed deeper Firebase integrations using the Dart Admin SDK. Expect a full breakout session at Google I/O.

Onsite Experiences: AI-Powered Coffee and Interactive Demos

GenLatte: AI Specialty Coffee Shop

Flutter GenUI powered a fully AI-driven coffee shop at the expo center. Attendees ordered lattes through a Flutter app, then watched baristas craft custom foam art generated by nanobanana AI.

"The GenLatte booth showcased how generative UI can create delightful user experiences," said Kate Lovett, developer advocate. Over 2,000 custom lattes were served throughout the event.

Agentic Mobile & Web Demos

The expo floor buzzed with three major demos: Fullstack Dart, GenUI, and a special appearance by VGV. The Partiful app showed UI generated on the fly, while Firebase Functions for Dart drew crowds.

  • Fullstack Dart Demo: highlighted backend integration
  • GenUI Demo: real-time UI generation
  • VGV Partners: agentic capabilities

Builder Hub: Developer Home Base

Located on the expo floor, the Builder Hub featured dedicated booths for Flutter, Firebase, and Go. Developers connected with experts, explored new tools, and shared feedback.

Key Sessions & Customer Stories

Developer Keynote: Agents and Flutter

Emma Twersky hosted the Developer Keynote, highlighting how Flutter fits into Google Cloud's agent-first vision. Richard Seroter joined to demonstrate real-world agent deployments.

"Flutter is becoming the UI layer for intelligent agents," Twersky stated during the presentation.

Toyota & Talabat: Enterprise Success

Toyota shared how Flutter powers next-gen infotainment systems, revolutionizing automotive UX. Talabat showcased faster innovation and scaling across the Middle East. Abdallah Shaban led the conversations with both companies.

Generative UI Deep Dive

Yegor Jbanov and Andrew Brogdon explained how agents can create their own UI beyond chatbots. The session will be available on the Flutter YouTube channel after Google I/O.

Building Full-Stack Dart

Rody Davis and Kevin Moore presented why developers should embrace Dart for both client and server, emphasizing productivity and performance.

Background

Flutter has been a frontend framework for mobile and web, but lacking native backend support. Dart's expansion into Firebase Functions bridges this gap, enabling single-language development.

Previously, developers needed JavaScript/TypeScript for cloud functions. This preview marks a strategic shift toward full-stack Dart ecosystems.

What This Means

For developers, full-stack Dart reduces learning curves and speeds up shipping. Enterprises like Toyota and Talabat can now unify their tech stack, lowering maintenance costs.

Expect accelerated adoption of Flutter in large-scale production environments, especially for AI-driven applications like GenLatte. The next Google I/O will likely expand on these previews, shaping the future of app development.
